肯尼亚班达瑞海事学院:Bandari Maritime Academy Explores Collaboration with Tangshan Maritime Institute of China and Jomo Kenyatta Univeristy of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) TVET institute

Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) is exploring new frontiers in international collaboration following a meeting between BMA Board Member, Dr. Fridah Simba, and a delegation from Tangshan Maritime Institute of China. The meeting was held at the JKUAT TVET Institute in Karen, Nairobi, and focused on strengthening academic and technical partnerships in the Maritime and related sectors.

 

Discussions centered on potential areas of collaboration, including Maritime education and training, student and faculty exchange programs, and joint initiatives in business and ICT courses. Additionally teaching of Mandarin in Kenyan institutions and Swahili in the Chinese institute was discussed. The institutions expressed a shared commitment to advancing global standards in Maritime education through knowledge exchange, capacity building, and innovation.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Fridah Simba emphasized the importance of international linkages in enriching the quality of Maritime training in Kenya. She noted that partnerships such as this open door for BMA cadets and trainers, JKUAT graduands to benefit from exposure to global best practices and emerging technologies in Maritime operations.

 

The Chinese delegation was led by Prof. Shukun Zhang, Tangshan Maritime Institute, Assistant to the President and Dean of the Business and Tourism School, alongside Prof. Xiang Fei, Deputy Director of the Teaching Affairs Department and Prof. Lu Chang, a Business English Professor at the Business and Tourism School.

Fatma Mzee, BMA’s Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Officer, under the support of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Eric Katana was also present and highlighted the Academy’s ongoing efforts to forge strategic collaborations that support its vision of becoming a regional Centre of Excellence in Shipping, Maritime, and Blue Economy training.
