In a significant move to bolster international academic ties, a high-level delegation from Tangshan Maritime Institute in the People’s Republic of China visited the JKUAT TVET Institute for high-level talks on collaboration and development.
The visiting delegation was led by Prof. Shukun Zhang, Assistant to the President and Dean of the Business and Tourism School. He was accompanied by Prof. Xiang Fei, Deputy Director of the Teaching Affairs Department, and Prof. Lu Chang, a Professor of Business English.
The primary focus of the visit was to explore concrete areas of mutual cooperation, with a strong emphasis on enhancing student and faculty exchange programs and strengthening joint training initiatives across various academic fields.
“This visit marks a pivotal step in internationalizing our curriculum and providing our students with global perspectives,” said Dr. Fridah Simba, Director of JKUAT TVET Institute. “We are excited about the potential this partnership holds for enriching our academic and cultural landscape.”
Extensive discussions between the two institutions centered on forging robust collaborations in the high-demand fields of Business, Marine studies, and Information Communication Technology (ICT).
A key highlight of the talks was a mutual agreement to pioneer language exchange programs. The institutes plan to introduce Chinese language courses at JKUAT TVET while facilitating Swahili language and cultural immersion trips to China.
“We believe that true partnership is built on a foundation of cultural and academic exchange,” said Prof. Shukun Zhang, head of the Chinese delegation. “We are committed to working with JKUAT to create meaningful opportunities for our students and faculty, fostering a deeper understanding between our two nations.”
The delegation was warmly received by JKUAT TVET leadership, including Dr. Anthony Kirimi, Director of Academics, and Dr. Aming’a, Dean of the School of Law. Also in attendance was Ms. Fatma Mzee, Resource Partnership Mobilization Lead at Bandari Maritime Academy, signaling potential collaborative synergies within the regional maritime sector.
Both institutions expressed a strong commitment to finalizing the framework for these initiatives, with the shared goal of fostering closer academic ties and driving innovation through joint research and training programs.
